After starting at HPS Law Firm in June 2020, Pete began practicing in all of the firm’s areas of litigation in South Dakota’s state and federal courts and the tribal court of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe. Pete graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in 2016 and was admitted to practice law in South Dakota that year. Before joining the firm, he served as a law clerk for the Honorable Jeffrey L. Viken while he was Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of South Dakota, and for the Honorable Patricia A. Sullivan, a Magistrate Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. 

Pete grew up in Miller and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 2013, he graduated with honors from Arizona State University, earning degrees in philosophy and political science. Prior to graduating, he studied at the London School of Economics in 2011 and lived in Washington, D.C., for a semester in 2012 to intern for the U.S. Senate Banking Committee while Senator Tim Johnson was the Chair. 

Following college, Pete entered law school at Georgetown, where he competed on the moot court team, served as a senior editor on the Georgetown Immigration Law Journal, and was elected by his section to be their graduation commencement speaker. He completed internships with the Honorable Tanya S. Chutkan, a District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, the Appellate Section of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Environment and Natural Resources Division, and the South Dakota U.S. Attorney’s Office. During the fall 2015 semester, Pete enrolled in international and comparative business law classes at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany. Pete has published law review articles on immigration law and various legal issues affecting Native American tribes.

Pete likes running and road biking, reading fiction, and listening to Luke Combs and Prince.
