Constitutional Law

Constitutional law deals with the interpretation and implementation of both the South Dakota Constitution and United States Constitution. As the foundation of both our state and country, constitutional law deals with some of the fundamental relationships within our society. This includes relationships among the states, the states and the federal government, the branches of government, and the rights of the individual in relation to both federal and state government. As the South Dakota Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court play a crucial role in interpreting these Constitutions, the practice of Constitutional Law focuses heavily on Supreme Court rulings.
